Google has devised a Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising system called Google Adwords to help advertisers to promote their products and/or services. If you have used Google you probably have seen the Google Adwords. They appear as little text ads next to the search results on Google. They also appear on AOL, Ask Jeeves, Earthlink, Toema, Sympatico and many other search engines.

With Google Adwords you create your own ads. You choose keywords that tell Google where to show your ads. You only pay when someone clicks on them. You have total control over every aspect of your campaign. Real-time reporting tells you what's working and what's not. You can put limits on your daily spending.

Google adwords ads are ranked on a formula of the cost per click that you specified and the click through rate. This allows your ads to rank high without increasing your cost. The better your click through rate, the higher up on the page your ad will be placed. Therefore you get more clicks and they can translate into more sales.

This is how it works. You write small Google Adwords promoting your merchant's products and/or services. In your ad is a link that, when clicked, takes the user to the landing page of your merchant. Your affiliate ID is passed along with it. When the user that clicked through your ad buys something from it, you get a commission. Even if the user did not buy at that time, you may still get the commission if he/she buys at a later time. This is because most merchants put a cookie on the user's computer for a certain period of time such as 180 days.

The key to making money with Google Adwords is the selection of keywords for the products and/or services of the merchant you're affiliated to. Then it is just a matter of writing the Adwords ads and bidding for the top eight positions on the display page of a Google search.
